The Star Entertainment Group is holding a design excellence competition, inviting world-class architects to compete for the right to design a new tower as part of The Star Sydney complex.
In a joint venture with Hong Kong-based Chow Tai Fook and Far East Consortium, The Star Entertainment Group plans to include a six-star hotel within the tower, featuring 220 premium hotel rooms and around 150 residences. The hotel will be operated by The Ritz-Carlton.
Community consultation will be key and architects will be required to consider feedback and suggestions provided through these consultations before submitting their final drafts.
As an addendum to the tower, a structure connecting it to existing Star Sydney buildings is also planned. It will not only provide convenient access from the tower to the main complex but will also allow opportunity for more food and beverage facilities.
The tower and associated connecting structure is estimated to cost up to $500 million.
“Tourism, especially from Asia, is a huge, long term growth driver for Australia,” says Matt Bekier, The Star Entertainment Group Managing Director & CEO.
“Sydney needs more quality hotels, and exciting entertainment and hospitality infrastructure to win its share of that growth. Our development concept will take The Star’s room inventory to more than 1,000, bring The Ritz-Carlton brand back to Sydney, and add a further 20 food and beverage venues.”
Pending all approvals, the project can begin immediately and will take around three years to complete.
