The Star launched its Good Neighbour Plan on August 16, demonstrating it is a good corporate citizen by handing out generous grants to six beneficiaries in the Pyrmont/Ultimo locale. The event, hosted by Managing Director, Greg Hawkins and General Manager External Affairs, Chris Downy was held at The Marquee and attended by members of not-for-profit organisations, community groups and other local entities.

The Good Neighbour Plan is a Star initiative made up of three elements: The Neighbourhood Grants Program which offers a financial boost to community focused groups and projects; a Community Advisory Panel which allows formal discourse between The Star and its neighbours; and a hard copy Neighbourhood Newsletter which will feature community news.

“Our aim is to proactively engage with the community, to work together to create a better neighbourhood for all and enhance the community’s well-being,” explained Mr Hawkins.

The Good Neighbour Plan endeavours to  keep local people informed, allowing them to discuss concerns and have their enquiries answered promptly.

At the launch ceremony Mr Hawkins and Mr Downy presented the following groups with grants: Friends of Pyrmont Community Centre, The Harris School Community Scholarship Foundation, the Pyrmont History Group, Beehive Industries, Will2Live and Ten4Them.

Mr Hawkins describes the grants as a gesture of The Star’s desire to encourage harmony and interaction between itself and its neighbours.

“The Star is committed to being a good neighbour and enhancing the community’s well-being. Already a regular supporter of local groups and charities, we want to enhance engagement with our neighbours – the people who live and work in the Pyrmont area – and demonstrate our commitment to ongoing communication, transparency and consultation.”
