Plans to build a towering Ritz-Carlton Hotel as part of The Star complex are advancing closer to fruition, with only a bit more paperwork to get through before the first brick can finally be laid. The tower will be part of a ribbon development which will include resort amenities, increased food and drink venues and a neighbourhood centre. People will be able to dine among the clouds and gaze down at the harbour from the Sky Lobby restaurant with a rooftop terrace.
The Star Entertainment Group CEO, Matt Bekier, believes the new hotel will be a boon for the entire Pyrmont/Darling Harbour/Barangaroo precinct, and indeed, for Sydney. With tourism being a major growth industry and Sydney becoming a popular destination, it behooves this city to have world class accommodation, tourism and entertainment facilities which the Ritz-Carlton project should provide.
Bekier is especially proud of the consideration towards local community that formed an integral part of the consultation and design.
“From the outset of this planning process more than two years ago we have engaged the Pyrmont community and kept the wider precinct updated, ” said Bekier.
“We are proud to include in the development, a Pyrmont Neighbourhood Centre over five levels with a proposed social enterprise cafe, reading room, function space, collaboration hub and rooftop terrace. There will also be improved visibility and access to the light rail station under The Star.”
Architects FJMT won a competition held by The Star Entertainment Group for the right to design the building which will get underway as soon as approval is received.
