Welcome to new PUCC member, Barnardos.
Barnardos Australia is a leading non-government, non-denominational child protection charity.
Originally founded in 1870 by Dr Thomas Barnardo, after discovering the extreme poverty children were experiencing in the east end of London, we have been operating in Australia since 1921.
Barnardos believes all children and young people deserve caring families in which they can grow safely and fulfil their potential. We work together with children, young people and families to break the cycle of disadvantage, creating safe, nurturing and stable homes, connected to family and community.
We support local families facing domestic violence, drug and alcohol abuse, mental health, poverty and homelessness, to help parents keep their children safe at home. When the courts rule that this is not possible, our foster care and open adoption services give children a safe and stable place to grow up and reach their potential.
Today, we continue to share the same beliefs made famous by Dr Barnardo who collected donations so that no child would ever be turned away from his care. Almost 150 years later, Barnardos still need generous people to support our vital work to protect and care for vulnerable children.
One way you can help support Barnardos is by joining Team Barnardos the iconic City2Surf. Every team member will receive a fundraising welcome pack and training tips every step of the way to help you achieve your goals.
You’ll also get to run side by side with Barnardos celebrity ambassador James Mathison (host of Foxtel’s new “Thrones 360” TV program) who will be heading up our team. This is the perfect opportunity to improve your personal best and the money you raise will help support vulnerable children and create safe, nurturing families to prevent child abuse.
Get a team together, run solo, walk or dress up! Whatever you do, make sure you choose to fundraise for Barnardos Australia when you run for the City2Surf this year.
