When you step aboard a replica of The Endeavour berthed alongside the Australian National Maritime Museum, you can feel the pioneering spirit and nautical history billowing in its sails. It’s just one of the unique experiences offered at the museum, and only one of the many reasons you should become an ANMM member.
The ANMM is one of Sydney’s premier attractions, prominently situated on the shore of Cockle Bay and at the end of the Pyrmont Bridge walkway. It houses around 140,000 items including photographs, manuscripts, ship’s logs, nautical relics, artefacts, and other sea-related objects. The collection includes a floating exhibit featuring a faithful replica of HMB Endeavour and the fully restored James Craig (1874); HMAS Vampire, an ex-Naval destroyer still equipped with big guns; HMAS Onslow, an ex-Naval submarine which you can enter (if you’re not claustrophobic!); vintage boats, a functioning lifeboat capsule, classic sailing boats and many other historical water craft.
Membership gains you unlimited free entry to the museum and all accessible vessels. Inside the museum you can roam the galleries and marvel the rich display of items ranging across fashion, vintage magazines, cultural art, specimens, salvaged relics, and special loan items. ANMM has a constant schedule of special exhibitions for which members get a discount. Past exhibitions have included James Cameron – Challenging The Deep; Annette Kellerman – The Mermaid from Marrickville; Wildlife Photographer of The Year; Sharks and Humanity; just to name a handful. The 3D Cinema is an exciting, immersive way to experience a selection of excellent documentary films, and it’s included with free membership entry.
Membership is especially great for families, with two complimentary passes per year plus a 20% discount for up to four people. Kids get free entry to Kids On Deck, Mini Mariners and various other activities as well as discounts on workshops. You’ll also gain access to the private members lounge and use of the Vaughan Evans Library, a discount at the museum store and Yots Cafe, reciprocal deals for other museums and venues, and you’ll receive ANMM’s quarterly magazine, Signals.
What’s more, you’ll be contributing to the wonderful work in conservation, research, education, and positive promotion conducted by the museum. For more details and membership application, please visit https://www.sea.museum/support/members
