Sydney has launched its first on-demand ferry service. The six month trial is being conducted in the Bays Precinct with single destination routes going between Barangaroo Wharf and either Pirrama Park, Sydney Fish Market, or Blackwattle Bay Park in Glebe. (You can’t travel between the latter three destinations. See map)
Fares for a one way trip are $7.60 per adult, and $3.80 per child/concession, and bookings can be made from 7am to 10pm, Monday to Friday and from 8:30am to 7:30pm on weekends and public holidays. You can download the Tranzer app to make bookings and payments, or book at a kiosk at Pyrmont, Barangaroo, or Glebe and pay by credit card once on board. Me-Mel, a 43-seat mini-cat, is the single ferry being used for the trial, but, pending its success, more ferries may be introduced to run similar services around Sydney’s waterways.
Early ferry-goers are already thrilled with the new service.
