Back by popular demand, Australian National Maritime Museum’s (ANMM) Voyage to the Deep: Underwater Adventures, returns on December 14 for a limited season.
Inspired by Jules Verne’s 1870 classic 20,000 Leagues Under the Seas, the exhibition will recreate the fabulous Nautilus submarine and the fantastic deep-sea fantasy world explored by Captain Nemo. Kids can climb aboard the Nautilus and take control at the helm, peer through periscopes, crank the propeller, and then have a rest in a  bunk. They can look at marine specimens in Captain Nemo’s Cabinet of Curiosities, play a bubbly pipe organ and marvel at the victuals in the galley.
And then the real adventure begins! Brave explorers will go into the  Octopus’ Garden, encounter a giant clam shell and  slide down the giant squid, wander through the maze of seaweed in the kelp forest, hunt for treasure in the wreck of a Spanish galleon or explore the lost world of Atlantis.
Visitors will also learn real facts about our oceans today, from information on different ocean habitats and their sea creatures to the devastating impact of ghost nets (discarded or abandoned fishing nets) on marine wildlife.
And during the school holidays, there’s plenty of associated activities to keep families entertained when visiting Voyage to the Deep. Don’t miss the kids’ craft and dress-up sessions, ghost net weaving, hands on Cabinet of Curiosities and tours for the under 5’s.
