The Pyrmont Art Prize has been running for eleven years and has been a feature of Pyrmont Festival since it began. Artists of all abilities and styles are invited to take part, with cash and other prizes being awarded. Lesley Dimmick from Tap Gallery has run the competition from the start and still has a lot of enthusiasm for getting people to pick up a canvas and let their brushes and imagination loose on it.
This year, the art exhibit at Pirrama Park will be under cover, sparing the artworks – and admirers – from the elements. Bendigo Bank is, once again, the major sponsor of the art competition/exhibition and is putting up $1000 in cash prizes. Other prizes include accommodation and dinner, art voucher, and art classes.
Dimmick also encourages participation from local schools and members of the community. Judges will award the major prizes but there will also be a People’s Choice award determined by visitors to the festival over the two days.
If you’d like to try your hand at some creative expression, you can pick up a canvas from Tap Gallery. Entry fee is $20.
