The second Pyrmont Growers Market was held on March 25th under very welcome sunny skies. With warm rays drying out the sodden ground, many more people came out to sample delicious home made delicacies and buy fresh produce. The day coincided with Earth Hour and we had invited the students from International Grammar School to make posters about sustainability which were displayed by various stallholders on market day.
Year 5 teacher Ms Christina Cosolito discussed Earth Hour with her class and asked students about the significance of protecting the planet.
“They had many ideas about sustainability, organic farming, endangered species and the importance of reducing pollution,” she said. “They were passionate about creating artworks and hope to inspire others with their environmentally friendly messages.”
The stallholders were enthusiastic about displaying the artworks and said they received lots of positive feedback from customers.
It’s reassuring to know that kids are aware of the importance of sustainability and environmental health, especially in the food cycle.
